How to set network location type to "Domain"?
Hello. I have a laptop with two network interfaces - wired & wireless. Both of them are connected to my domain network, and have IP addresses from same subnet. However, Windows determines that Network Location is "Public". When WiFi interface is down, Windows boots normally and Network Location is set to "Domain". But location momentally changes to "Public",when WiFi adapteris turned on. How can I fix this trouble? I need both connections, and I need to manage this laptop remotely with WMI. P.S. In "Public" mode Windows ignores firewall settings, which allow to connect to system services.

Hi, This behavior is by design. This behavior occurs if one or more of the network adapters cannot contact a domain controller. This behavior is intended to enforce more restrictive firewall settings over less secure connections, depending on the network location type. Only one firewall profile may be active on the computer at the same time. For more information, you can refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article: A Windows Vista-based computer that is connected to a domain uses the public profile or the private profile for the Windows Firewall policy instead of the domain profile http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938756/en-us In addition, you also can refer to the following link: Windows Firewall with Advanced Security Getting Started Guide http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc748991.aspx NOTE: Check the section Profile order is applied as follows Hope it helps.

I alsogot another laptop (HP)with same configuration, its network profile is correct. First laptop (sony vaio) still has "public" profile. I suppose it driver's problem. Or laptop has some third-party software that misconfiguring Windows. Anyone have same issue with Sony VAIO laptops?
